Historic
Arkengarthdale |
Why choose Arkle
Moor Riding Centre? |
| "Arkil's Garth", the valley of Arkil's
enclosure, is named after Arkil, the son of Gospatrick who held this
land before the Norman Conquest. |
When you choose to ride with
Arkle Moor Riding Centre you can be sure of a commitment to make
your riding experience a pleasure. |
| A path through the wood below Booze comes
out at Arkle Town, the first village up the valley. But today
Langthwaite, a mile further up the dale is more or less the centre
of Arkengarthdale. |
Jane has a wealth of knowledge,
experience and enthusiasm and caters for horse lovers of all
abilities. |
| Just past Langthwaite is the C.B. Inn, called after Charles
Bathurst Esq., Lord of the manor in the eighteenth century. The
estate was sold by the citizens of London to Dr. John Bathurst,
physician to Oliver Cromwell in 1628. The family and descendants did
much to develop the lead-mining industry in the dale and smelt-mill
remains dot the landscape. |
Ride for hours
without seeing any other traffic - bliss!
Quiet horses and
ponies to suit riders of all sizes
See the wild birds,
curlews, golden plovers, red grouse, buzzards and all types of wild
animals
Holiday
accommodation can be arranged |
| Past the C.B. Inn the present road that
traverses the Stang northwards was the road used by the Romans to
transport lead from the Arkengarthdale mines to Barnard
Castle. |
| The history of the dale goes back
centuries, making it an historical and striking area to explore on
horseback, invoking images of bygone tomes to enhance your ride
through one of the most beautiful dales in North Yorkshire. |
| A warm welcome and car parking |
| Accommodation arranged for longer
