posterHull Choral Union
Junior Chorus is being formed to celebrate the 80th Season of our choir. We
are delighted to be sharing our musical experience with a new generation of
singers and we would like to invite all children who enjoy singing, to come
along and give it a try.
We are offering some special taster sessions to give children an idea of
what the Junior Chorus will be like. We can:
Visit schools and deliver a 20-25 minute presentation during which pupils
will learn a typical song that we will be singing. We’ll bring a young
singer with us and invite one of the school’s own confident singers to take
part in the presentation too.
We’ll also be running two self-contained workshops from 6-7pm on Wednesdays
4th and 11th February 2009 at the Priory Centre, Priory Road, Hull. Places
are free and available on a first come, first served basis. Book places by
phone or email.
Hull Choral Union Junior Chorus is for boys and girls between the ages of 8
–12. They may have sung before or they may not have sung before. They will
certainly not have to be able to read music to join – enjoying singing or
wanting to try it are the most important things.
‘ ….pupils learn new skills, boost their thinking and have a great time
making new friends……’
The leader of the Junior Chorus will be local music teacher, Janice Summers.
She has been a member of Hull Choral Union for seven years. Janice said, “
We want to invite all children in this area who are
interested to come along and give it a try. It doesn’t matter if they
haven’t sung much before or can’t read music because that’s what we’ll be
teaching. We’ll be working closely with the Director of the adult choir,
Martin Hindmarsh, who is a very experienced professional singer and
conductor, to make sure that we offer a really exciting programme of
activities that will develop the children’s vocal skills and we will create
a fun, friendly and supportive atmosphere so everyone can experience the
positive benefits that singing can bring. We’ll be singing music in many
different styles and there will be opportunities to sing with professional
musicians and the adult choir in the magnificent Hull City Hall. We will
want the children to get really involved in the running of the choir, having
a say in what they sing and how the group is organised and we’ll be hoping
to involve slightly older students who are over 16, to train with us as
accompanists and deputy chorus leaders. It’s a really exciting time for the
choir and we can’t wait to get started!”
The Junior Chorus will meet on Wednesday evenings at the Priory Centre,
Priory Road, Hull between 6-7pm, from 25th February 2009.
‘We love to sing and want children in our city to love singing as much as
we do’
